How does auto-conversion work?

Your debit card is directly linked to your US dollar balance. Whenever you use your debit card for a point-of-sale transaction at a merchant or an ATM withdrawal and your US dollar balance is not sufficient to cover the amount of the transaction, we can auto-convert the transaction amount to US dollars from your Bitcoin balance so that the transaction is completed.

Your Xapo debit card can use your US dollar balance, your Bitcoin balance, or both.

If your USD balance is insufficient for a purchase, Xapo Card can automatically convert Bitcoin to USD to cover the cost. This feature does not draw funds from savings accounts or the Bitcoin vault; therefore, ensure your main wallet has enough funds before making a card purchase.

How to choose which account to use

By default, new cards use your US dollar account. Auto-conversion from Bitcoin is turned off.

You can change this setting at any time for any card:

  1. Tap on "My cards" in the app and select the card you want to change.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Tap "Linked accounts" and choose your settings.

Your card spend push notifications will indicate whether BTC auto-conversion occurred, and you will be able to see the details associated with the transaction reflected in your account transaction history. If you need help, please contact us via in-app chat or email [email protected]. We are happy to help.
