What is the BTC Credit Fund?
The BTC Credit Fund is a way for Xapo Bank members to earn more Bitcoin without selling it. Instead of your Bitcoin sitting idle, it’s put to work through carefully managed lending to trusted financial institutions. These institutions are reviewed and monitored regularly for safety and reliability.
The fund aims to deliver steady, low-risk Bitcoin growth of up to 4% a year*, with all returns paid directly in BTC. It’s built for long-term Bitcoin holders who want their holdings to grow safely and simply.
How does it generate earnings?
Your Bitcoin is combined with that of other members in a professionally managed pool. That pool is then lent out to vetted financial institutions such as asset managers, exchanges, and other regulated counterparties. These institutions pay interest on the Bitcoin they borrow, and that’s how you earn more Bitcoin.
The process is short-term, transparent, and conservative:
No speculative trading
No leverage (borrowing to amplify risk)
Short lending periods of a few weeks or months to help maintain control and flexibility.
What does “BTC-denominated” mean?
Everything in the fund is measured in Bitcoin. So if you invest 1 BTC and the fund grows by 4%, you’ll receive 1.04 BTC, no matter what the Bitcoin price is in dollars or any other currency.
How is my Bitcoin protected?
The BTC Credit Fund employs a comprehensive risk management framework to protect investors’ Bitcoin. This includes rigorous counterparty due diligence, requiring counterparties to meet high standards of creditworthiness and operational integrity.
Although the BTC Credit Fund employs the highest of standards to mitigate risk, it is important to note that all investments in financial products carry risk. Please read Xapo’s Risk Disclosure Note and the BTC Credit Fund’s offering documents for further details on the risks involved.
Who manages the fund?
The BTC Credit Fund is managed by Hilbert Capital Ltd, a professional investment manager registered with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA). Xapo VASP Limited acts as its custodian, holding Bitcoin within Xapo’s trusted custody framework.
Who can invest?
To invest, you must:
Be an eligible Xapo Bank member
Meet a minimum investment of USD 120,000 (in BTC)
Pass a Knowledge and Experience Assessment in-app to confirm your understanding of the product and its risks
How do I invest?
You can invest entirely through the Xapo Bank app:
Step 1: Choose how much Bitcoin you want to invest. Step 2: Sign the agreement via DocuSign (sent to your email). Step 3: Once approved, your Bitcoin moves to the fund’s subscription wallet. Step 4: On the 1st of the next month following your investment, your Bitcoin is allocated to the fund and starts earning yield.
Tip: Apply by the 17th of the month to be included in the next investment cycle. If you apply later, your Bitcoin will start earning the following month.
How long does it take to start earning?
It depends on when you apply:
Fastest: About 16 days (if you apply before the 17th day of the month cut off).
Longest: About 47 days (if you apply just after the 17th day of the month cut-off).
Your Bitcoin starts earning automatically once the next cycle begins on the 1st.
What is the lock-in period?
The BTC Credit Fund requires a minimum lock-in period of 30 days, meaning you must keep your Bitcoin invested for at least this duration before you can request a withdrawal. After the lock-in period, you may request a withdrawal.
Can I withdraw my Bitcoin anytime?
Once the lock-in period has expired, you can request a withdrawal through your Xapo Wealth account by navigating to the BTC BTC Credit Fund. From there, click on Withdraw, enter the amount you wish to withdraw and Confirm your order. As part of the withdrawal process, you will be required to complete a Redemption Form via DocuSign. Withdrawal orders are processed on the last calendar day of each month. To be included in the next available withdrawal cycle, your order must be submitted at least 30 days in advance. Once processed, your BTC will become available within 30 days of the redemption date.
Example: If you submit a withdrawal on March 31, your Bitcoin will stop earning on April 30 and arrive back in your wallet by around May 25.
Are there any fees?
In order to carry out its investment activities the BTC Credit Fund is required to pay various fees, including management fees, performance fees, service provider fees and general expenses.
All fees are paid directly by the BTC Credit Fund. This means that you don’t need to hold money or Bitcoin in your Xapo account to pay any fees as they are accounted for in the BTC Credit Fund’s value. This means that when you receive the Net Asset Value (NAV) updates and see the value of your investment change, the fees have already been taken into account. Please read the BTC Credit Fund’s offering documents for full details on fees.
How can I track my earnings?
You can track your performance directly in the Xapo Bank app. It shows:
Your current BTC balance in the fund
Monthly performance updates
The total Bitcoin you’ve earned
Is the BTC Credit Fund the same as my BTC Savings account?
Think of BTC Savings like a flexible bank account: it pays a lower interest rate, but you can withdraw your funds instantly at any time. The BTC Credit Fund is an investment: it targets a higher growth (up to 4%*) because your Bitcoin is being lent out for fixed periods. Because it is being actively used, you cannot withdraw it instantly - there is a notice period if you want to take your money out.
Can I lose my Bitcoin?
Although the BTC Credit Fund employs the highest of standards to mitigate risk, it is important to note that all investments in financial products carry risk. Please read Xapo’s Risk Disclosure Notice and the BTC Credit Fund’s offering documents for further details on the risks involved.
