At Xapo Bank, protecting your money, whether in Bitcoin or USD, is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we’ve rolled out several new card security improvements designed to give you greater control, stronger protection, and faster fraud response.

Here’s what’s new:

1. BTC spending is now disabled by default

New cards will no longer automatically spend from your BTC wallet. To use Bitcoin for purchases, members must manually enable it in the Linked Accounts settings.

This update helps prevent accidental BTC spending, keeping your long-term holdings secure and separate from everyday expenses.

2. Lower default spending limits

We’ve reduced the default daily limits to $10,000 for in-store and online purchases and $1,000 for ATM withdrawals.

This change helps:

Minimise losses in case of fraud.
Encourage better awareness of your spending limits.
Allow flexibility: limits can still be increased for larger transactions under card settings, as and when you need it.

These defaults ensure a balance between convenience and security.

3. Greater control over where your card can be used

You now have the power to toggle key features on and off, including Contactless, Magstripe, and Gambling payments, alongside existing options like remote and foreign in-person spending.

This means you decide exactly where and how your card can be used, giving you complete control and peace of mind.

4. Smarter, faster fraud alerts

Our monitoring system instantly detects suspicious or high-risk transactions. If something unusual happens, you may now receive a real-time alert asking you to confirm the transaction.

Confirm it was you? Your card is reactivated immediately.
Don’t recognise the activity? Your card is suspended while we assist with a replacement and dispute process.

This improvement eliminates manual review delays and gets you back to using your card safely, faster.
