FAQs
When buying, there's only one transaction fee. It's currently at 0.5%, charged by Xapo Bank, to support the delivery of our service. The fee is rounded up to the nearest cent. When you sell, the following fees apply:
0.5% Xapo Bank transaction fee, rounded up to the nearest cent.
The SEC fee: The SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) fee is paid to the US Treasury to help offset the cost that the US government incurs when regulating the equities market. This fee is currently USD 0.000008 per share, with a minimum charge of USD 0.01 per trade.
The TAF: The TAF (Trading Activity Fee) is one of the regulatory fees levied by FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) to cover the costs of supervising and regulating firms. This fee is currently USD 0.000145 per share, with a minimum of USD 0.01 and a maximum of USD 7.2 per trade.
The stocks available consist of companies listed in the S&P500 and top 250 stocks from NASDAQ. A part of the S&P500, these companies are carefully chosen by Standard and Poor’s (an established credit rating agency), based on their large market capitalisation and diverse representation of all major sectors of the American economy. Companies in the S&P500 can be considered "blue chip" stocks, and tend to have a record of stability. With the S&P500, you get access to the largest and most established companies in the United States, which have a proven track record of success.
When selling stock, you need to retain ownership of at least USD 5 worth of a company's stock. You cannot go below this amount, except if you intend to sell off all your stock in the company.
A fractional share is a portion of a whole share of stock that is less than one full share. It allows you to own a piece of a company's stock based on the amount of money you are willing to invest. Many brokerages offer the option to buy fractional shares, which can be helpful if the price of a full share is too high to afford in a single transaction. Just like with full shares, fractional shares entitle you to dividends and other rights of equity ownership. Fractional shares can make it easier to invest in a company by allowing you to buy a smaller amount of a share, like USD 10. This can be especially useful for removing barriers to entry for investing, as often, whole share prices are prohibitively high.
To protect our members from the risks of pattern day trading and avoid being flagged as a Day Trader, you can only execute three day trades within a rolling five-business-day period.
