What happens when my Xapo account has a negative balance?
Your balance should not fall below $0, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. Xapo only authorises card transactions when your Xapo Card is active and your account has a sufficient balance.
Your balance should not fall below $0, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. Xapo only authorises card transactions when your Xapo Card is active and your account has enough funds. However, in some cases, transactions may be approved offline (without checking your balance), or the merchant might send a late settlement, after the original transaction has been cancelled, which can lead to a negative USD account balance if funds are low.
If your USD balance drops below $0, we will take the following steps to bring your balance back to $0:
Deduct the negative amount from your USD Savings account
Convert Bitcoin from the BTC Wallet to cover the negative balance
Convert Bitcoin from the Bitcoin Savings to cover the negative balance
Lastly, attempt to convert Bitcoin from the Bitcoin Vault
If these methods fail, we may suspend your account until you restore the balance yourself. If you do not, your account may be closed.
